Submissions to Normal Words are closed. Thank you to everyone who dropped us a line.

Normal Words wants to publish your work. Specifically:

Fiction: Anything smart and at least moderately insightful. Any length is acceptable, although anything over 2,000 words may end up serialized. Genre fiction is okay, as long as it’s not overtly of its genre. .DOC or .RTF format preferred.

Essay: True stories, memoirs, creative non-fiction, and meditations on culture and the world around us. Again, there’s no floor or ceiling on word count but keep in mind we may serialize anything over 2,000 words. Also keep in mind the difference between “essay” and “rant.”

Poetry: Send us what you have, but please limit to five pieces per submission. .DOC or .RTF format preferred.

Visual: Graphic art, photographs, portraits, photo essays, comics you name it. Any file format is okay, but the larger (and higher resolution/DPI) the better. If any text accompaniment, please paste directly into the body of the email or attach in a .DOC or .RTF file.

For all submissions, please include a 2-3 sentence (the more brief the better) author bio as well, and a link to your website if you have one.

We regret to say we aren’t a paying publication, but if it’s any consolation we’re not making anything off of this, either. Also, we don’t mind simultaneous submissions but please let us know if that’s the case with your work. We’ll try to get back to you as soon as we can. Response times will surely vary, but we encourage you to report your submission experience to Duotrope’s Digest.
